Hello! First time posting on the forum, after logging on and trying out the server for the first time tonight. First off, let me say that what I’ve seen so far is beautiful! Lots of nice areas, with all sorts of villages and so on outside of Whitebridge. Great use of the tileset, with exterior areas that are big enough to feel big, but without the need to go through 20 of them to get to the next town. However, I’m not entirely sure what I should be doing, if no one else is on… I did find Shadar Logoth, and despite my better judgment, went in. But it was pretty empty. (Perhaps because it was day?) Then I found Baerlon (oof that kills my fps), and after that the mines too, with actual enemies! Sadly, the bandits were CR: Impossible and killed me with one hit. (Sneaking around them didn’t help either. Of course, my armored fighter was not terribly sneaky…) (Even the graveyard outside Whitebridge was rather un-graveyard-ish–at least in terms of a lack of skellies and such.) I realize this is WoT, not D&D, so the enemy mix would be different (and frankly, a lot of the books are plot and intrigue and so on). And I’m certainly not suggesting that graveyards should be filled with un-canon undead.

But what would a hotheaded young swordarm in search for some action do?

Hey scruff, Thanks for the compliments! One of the reason why there’s not a lot to do is because of the complexity that goes into each area. Each area can take a week or more individually (With the largest ones taking up to a month) where as I could have long since finished everything I have planned with more traditional NWN environmental design. The current hunting areas are also kind of scattered about a bit without any real clues to where they are. ATM, I’m working on an overland map that will help reveal those areas a lot better. In the mean time, The Two Rivers probably has your best mix of low level hunting. West of Emond’s field, just past Rand’s house, you’ll find a wooded entrance to some mountain foothills with low level animals that should be doable from lvl 2 to lvl 6-8ish. From there, there’s an underground ruin on the north east side of Watch Hill accessible by a tower outside of town. From there, you’ll find the waterwood full of abandoned trollocs from the Winternight attack. They should get you to lvl 10-12ish before you start hitting an XP wall. You can get to them by looking for a hidden entrance in the southern farmlands (At the back of the area). Then from there, the next areas are the mines (Which are a bit more difficult), or the underground pirate cave found in the whitebridge docks area. Baerlon is… bad. lol. It’s the only tileset that gives me wooden walls, but the override content from Helvine I have included in the Verdant pack is just awful nowdays. I’m not sure what happened engine wise, but his models seriously tank FPS way harder than 1.69. I’ll be replacing helvene’s trees with _six’s trees that I’m using everywhere else. But I want to get to Tar Valon before I focus on that again. And then eventually, I’ll just replace all the trees with my own (Which admittedly will be late next year sometime). I’ll revisit it soon to try and tame it down, but I want to get a few other things off my plate first. (Namely Caemlyn and the overland map). The graveyard is actually not something you’ll ever find undead in (and really the server isn’t either). It’s there to spawn dead people’s corpses in on server reset. I’ll add an NPC in that explains it’s purpose a bit better. But not far from that is the bear cave (lvl 4-10) that leads into the pirate cave (lvl 6-15), so that’s definitely not far from a few places to kill things. Overall, things are still firmly in early access mode for the server though. We’re missing a lot of RP areas and faction bases that are pretty much required. And even shops and NPC convos still need polished off. But it’s all coming together. Slowly, but surely. If you are on and ever need someone to hunt with (Or just want to get some RP under your belt), hit up our discord when you’re on and fiercely demand that everyone join you. lol.

Thanks for taking the time to post, dude, and I really hope to see you on the server and in discord!

Thanks for responding. I managed to find an area with quite a few critters.

Pity about the wolves being hostile, though. (I felt a bit bad when I had to take them down.) Any thought to giving them their own faction?

Heh, that’s actually something me and 8gen have already discussed. Up north between whitebridge and baerlon, there will be a pack of wolves near where Perrin realized his wolfiness. They’ll be the first I experiment with them not attacking wolf brothers, but everyone else. Otherwise, I intend to leave them out of any future hunting areas.

Hit up 8Gen in discord, and let him know you’re interested in reconciling your wolf killing IG, and I’m sure he could help make right plot-wise. Heh. (He’s our specialty faction DM. Wolfbrothers being one of them)

Ok, awesome. (From the books, wolves always seemed to smart to be just random mobs.) As a side note, are there any plans for hunting? (I killed several boar, for example. But there doesn’t seem to be any meat or hides or whatever to get off of that.)

I also bought some food at the beginning (the temple area), but am not entirely sure what it’s used for.

Yep, incoming. Hunting, fishing, cooking, and trading. Though, all together, it’s a huge intertwined system that’s going to take some time to put together. But I’ll start throwing in pieces as I finish them to test stuff out.

Heyo. Just a note that while Wolves typically won’t bother attacking people outright, it’s probably a different story if you’re a bit too close to their den. Most common folk have a poor opinion of Wolves anyway (Especially farmers), so there’s nothing technically wrong about your character facing them unless you’re a Wolfbrother. For which I’d appreciate contacting me before making one.

Welcome to the server!

Okay, thanks for the clarification, Eightgenerals. I wasn’t planning on making a wolfbrother (not yet, anyway); right now I’m just a random fighter running around the server. (And I’m afraid I had to kill a few more as well. They’re in the one hunting area I’ve been hanging out in.)

And thanks for the welcome. I liked the WoT books back in the day, and a whole server based on them could be a lot of fun. I saw the haks on steam, actually, and based off that decided to give the server a try.
